Currently, she holds the position of Academic Dean at the College of Animal Science and Technology & College of Veterinary Medicine, Huazhong Agricultural University; Chief Scientist for Pig Breeding at Yazhou Bay National Laboratory; and Director of the National Bio-Breeding Industry-Education Integration Innovation Platform. Additionally, she concurrently serves as Director of the National Engineering Research Center for Livestock, Director of the Key Laboratory of Agricultural Animal Genetics, Breeding and Reproduction of the Ministry of Education, and Executive Director of the Ministry of Agriculture's Swine Quality Supervision, Inspection and Testing Center (Wuhan). Her academic service roles include Co-Chair of the Organizing Committee of the International Plant and Animal Genome Conference (2009-2011), member of the Organizing Committee of the Asia Plant and Animal Genome Conference, President of the Animal Genetics and Breeding Branch of the Chinese Association of Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine, and Standing Member of the Swine Genome Committee of the International Society for Animal Genetics. She also acts as Vice Chair of the Swine Professional Committee of the National Livestock and Poultry Genetic Resources Committee and member of the Expert Group of the National Swine Genetic Improvement Program. Dr. Zhao has long been dedicated to research in pig genomics and breeding. Addressing key needs in China's swine basic research and industry, she has deciphered the regulatory mechanisms of important economic traits in pigs, developed a series of omics methods and tools, established an integrated omics-based gene mining technology system for pigs, created multiple independent intellectual property molecular breeding markers, and built a national localized pig genomic breeding technology system. She has bred and developed several lean-type pig new strains, high-quality black pig new breeds, and gene-edited pig breeding materials, achieving outstanding results in pig omics technology and germplasm innovation. She has led over 30 national-level research projects, including the National Key R&D Program, the Innovative Research Group Project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, the Key Project of the '863' Program, the Major Project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Major International Cooperation Projects, and the '973' Program Project. She has published more than 200 papers in internationally renowned journals such as Nature Biotechnology and Nature Communications, obtained over 130 authorized national invention patents, and bred 1 nationally approved new black pig breed. As the first completed person, she has won 2 Second Prizes of the National Technology Invention Award, as well as multiple scientific and technological awards including the First Prize of Science and Technology Progress of the Ministry of Education and the First Prize of Technological Invention of Hubei Province.
