Research Field

Our group focuses on zoonotic and animal pathogenic bacteria such as Streptococcus suis and pathogenic Escherichia coli. Our research interests include the mechanism of pathogenesis of bacterial pathogens, molecular epidemiology, bacterial infection diagnosis, and novel antibacterial drugs and vaccines development.

    (1) Mechanisms of pathogenesis: Our research is focused on important pathogenesis and pathogen-host interaction pathways such as the Bacterial Protein Secretion System, Metabolic Pathways, and Regulation of Virulence Gene Expression. We also develop techniques including transposon insertion sequencing technology (TraDis), CRISPR, CRISPRi, and other technologies to identify new virulence factors and pathogenic mechanisms.

    (2) Molecular Epidemiology: Our study utilizes methods such as microbiology, Whole Genome Sequencing, and bioinformatics to elucidate the transmission patterns and cross species transmission mechanisms of important animal pathogens and foodborne pathogens, and reveal the contamination patterns of foodborne pathogens in livestock and poultry slaughter, processing, and sales.

    (3) Rapid diagnosis technology and products development: We develop diagnostic methods for animal bacterial infectious diseases, and develop rapid detection methods including LAMP, RPA etc for on-farm infection diagnosis.

    (4) Development of new antibacterial drugs, vaccines, nanoantibodies: We perform antimicrobial compounds screening, vaccines design , and nanobodies development.
